With so many of our Cruisers still enjoying their time further north in Queensland or with other commitments here in Sydney, the October Long Weekend Cruise was fairly small, both in the number of boats attending and also the distance we cruised.

Three boats came along with Sanna & Niclas on RaRa, Gavin on Viking and Gerald & Jenni on Serenite.

RaRa started proceedings on Saturday taking a visitor mooring near Taronga Zoo, while Viking took a mooring at the CYC. Sunday saw both RaRa and Viking outside Sydney heads whale watching with lots of whales breaching and slapping their tails. The westerly then blew up and both boats came back inside.

RaRa anchored at the northern end of Balmoral Beach with Viking rafting up on the  starboard side and Serenite joining rafting up to port. Sundowners were enjoyed on RaRa as the sun set over Spit Rd.

When we rafted up we were the only three boats in the bay, but were soon joined by others anchoring nearby. One couple on a small catamaran, which Jenni christened the Travel Guides (from the TV show by the same name), anchored very nearby but their anchor dragged and by the time it stopped dragging they were a reasonable distance off. It was a good spot to watch the sunset.

Dinner was again on RaRa with each crew bringing their own for Niclas’  BBQ topped off with Sanna’s magnificent dessert.

Some were up early to watch the sunrise before we separated with Serenite heading outside for some whale watching with again plenty of action to see just beyond the heads. We followed a mother and calf nearly to Bondi just idling along behind.

So while we might not have cruised very far, we enjoyed a great night together.
